Professional Portfolio

Background

My aim in this Portfolio is to tell you a bit about myself, how I started in this sport, my achievements to date and where I am headed in the future.

My interest in kickboxing started when I commenced martial arts (Kung Fu) at the age of 14. I trained in this discipline for quite a few years, finding the discipline to commit to the challenge. At this time of my life, martial arts played a vital role; there were many different influences and distractions growing up and I found that Martial arts/Kickboxing was always there for me.

I put 100% into my training and disciplined myself and steered away from the bad path down which some of my friends where venturing. This grounding in training and discipline has helped to shape me into the person I am today, without it I don’t know where I would be. The discipline and commitment that has come with competing and training in my chosen sport has also contributed to my career achievements, such as becoming a Police Officer, Youth Liaison Officer, and now a child protection specialist. I believe that with the right direction and support anyone can achieve.

In 2003 I became a professional athlete; with your support and assistance, I aim to be the best I can be. Whatever I achieve will go back into the youth and the local community, once I succeed to where I want to be, I will retire and focus on the up and coming youth, giving guidance and support to others to keep them on the right track and help them to achieve as I have.

Summary

In summary, I have never been involved in this sport for money. I have a full time job as a Child Protection Case Worker; this job is demanding and has long hours. My sponsors have been great so far, and I am seeking ongoing support to help me achieve my sporting goals, while still maintaining a livelihood. In terms of my expectations, I am seeking sponsors who are committed and willing to make a formal arrangement. This will allow us both to know what we are getting and where we stand.

Sponsorship

By investing in me, you will not only gain exposure, you will also be making an investment in the sport and in the community. My commitment to this sport goes way beyond financial gain; I am driven to be the best, not by fame or fortune, but by how my achievements will help me to aspire our youth to be committed, disciplined and focused on their goals. I want others to gain the benefits that this sport has given me.

However, I cannot do this alone. With your help, I will be able to get the training, equipment, professional assistance and traveling expenses that I need to reach my goals. In return, you will receive the credit and exposure that is due to you. Not only by mentioning you on the night, but also by acknowledging your contribution in print media on the lead up to events and encouraging my friends, family and professional acquaintances to support your business.

I will keep you informed of my progress and any events well in advance, and provide you with advice on how you might be able to maximise your exposure. Your sponsorship will contribute to me securing the fights I need to achieve my goals. For example, if a promoter cannot afford to fly me to an event or provide accommodation, I would like to be in a position to still take the opportunity.

Sponsorship can work in different ways, and I will be happy to work with you to develop a suitable package. Some of the options might be::

·         A set investment paid each time I fight;

·         Periodical investment, say each month/quarter or year;

·         Donating training equipment, supplements, nutrition programmes etc;

·         The provision of other services such as travel or accommodation.

If you come to the fight and support me, tickets can be arranged at a discounted price.

Make no mistake I will achieve …

I will give 100% to be Australia’s best Kickboxer/Muay Thai Fighter.  I will also contribute back to the sport I love; and for your commitment, I will do my best to maximise your exposure and help you to meet your business goals.

Plans for 2010

My first International fight was in England on March 10 for the Professional Welterweight Intercontinental Title – This I WON.  On winning this I was guaranteed a World Title shot.

I have since been waiting for the opportunity, and have now secured a World Title Fight on home soil (Aug 14th Nowra) however I have had to pay the airline and assist with accommodation for this to occur.

I am looking at retiring this year, so I want to secure the WORLD TITLE, then concentrate on supporting my students to achieve more than I have, assist in taking them over the World with the sport. I also promote shows to assist them in the sport on the Central Coast.

Once winning this World Title, I would like to defend it once on a local show on the Central Coast to give back to all my family, friends, and the supporters over the years.

Current Sponsors

Phill’s Car Repairs – Woy Woy, Provided a payment prior to my last fight, to assist with my training. They also service my vehicles and attend on the night of the fight to show support.

Drury wins world title

BY GLENN ELLARD 16 Aug, 2010 09:33 AM

AN emotional Tim Drury dedicated his world kickboxing title to his late father after winning before a near capacity crowd at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre on Saturday night.

Drury, from the NSW Central Coast, had to overcome a torrid seven-round encounter with tough Japanese fighter Hopper Nagawa before he could claim the ISKA world professional welterweight kickboxing crown.

The tenacious battle between two experienced warriors of the sport repeatedly had the huge crowd on its feet, cheering madly as each landed telling blows.

Big kicks and punches were traded, but each fighter showed his toughness by not flinching under the impact of solid blows.

However, Drury seemed to have the edge from the outset, with techniques that were slightly sharper, and attacks that hit their target more often.

Drury started the better, possibly inspired by the national anthems at the start of the bout that resulted in around 700 voices singing Advance Australia Fair.

As the bout continued Nagawa appeared lighter and faster on his feet, but Drury seemed to have the edge in stamina during the punishing encounter.

In the end the judges awarded Drury a unanimous points win, sparking jubilation among a large contingent of the crowd.

Drury roared his delight, before dedicating his win to his father, who died four years earlier.

“He taught me that if I worked hard, I could get whatever I wanted,” he told the gathering. .

Drury’s win was just the second of the night for fighters from the blue corner in the 13-bout card, which was not good news for representatives from the local Southern Fitness and Martial Arts Centre who all took position in the blue corner.

As a very proud mum who was at Tim's fight along with all the other members of his family, I want to thank the paper for writing such a great article and also thank the photographer for that great shot of Tim's long awaited triumph. Tim has been so focused and worked tirelessly, juggling work commitments, the running of his gymnasium and caring for his precious son Jayden, along with the help of his wonderful wife Danni, who also works extremely hard. I would also like to thank Debbie from the Parkhaven Motor Lodge at Nowra for ringing me today and asking me if I would like a copy of the local paper sent to me. That was an extremely thoughtful thing to do and brought a real smile to my face today. Ann Drury
